Wedding allergies and dietary needs: how they're handled, from RSVP to plate

A guest with a serious allergy shouldn't be an afterthought on your wedding day. Here's exactly how I handle allergies and dietary needs, and what I need from you.

Every dish has its allergens published

Each dish on my wedding menus lists what it contains from the UK's 14 allergen groups: celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, soya and sulphites. You can check them before you even enquire: The Acorn, The Gatherer, The Hoard and The Golden Acorn.

What every menu covers

How it works, step by step

  1. When you enquire, tell me about any serious allergies. The enquiry form has space for it.
  2. With your RSVPs, ask guests to tell you their dietary needs at the same time as their menu choices.
  3. 21 days before, send me final numbers and every guest's dietary needs.
  4. I plan each allergy plate individually with you. My kitchen handles all 14 allergens, so every allergy plate is planned ahead, not improvised on the day.
  5. Before the wedding, I confirm final allergens to you in writing.

The things people forget

Questions

Can a caterer handle all 14 allergens at a wedding?

Yes, with planning. I publish the allergens for every dish against the UK's 14 allergen groups, plan any allergy plates individually with you, and confirm final allergens in writing before the wedding.

Can every course be gluten-free?

Yes. Every course on my wedding menus can be made gluten-free.

Is there a vegan option?

Every menu has a nut-free vegan starter and main. The Gatherer, The Hoard and The Golden Acorn also have a vegan dessert.

When do you need to know about allergies?

Tell me when you enquire if anyone has a serious allergy. Final numbers and every guest's dietary needs are due 21 days before the wedding.
